Positive Behaviour Supports

At MICAH, we are dedicated to helping children thrive by using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to understand and support autistic children’s unique needs. PBS is an evidence-based approach that focuses on fostering positive behaviours and reducing challenges through a holistic, individualised processfunded through NDIS Capacity Building - Improved Relationships funding category. By partnering with families, we aim to create a safe, supportive environment where children can grow, learn, and develop essential life skills. Below is an overview of the key elements of PBS and how it can help your child build a strong foundation for a happier, more fulfilling life.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a way to understand and support an autistic child’s behaviour. It focuses on:

  • Understanding Behaviour: Looking at why the child behaves the way they do.

  • Creating a Safe Environment: Helping the child feel safe and supported so they can grow and thrive.

  • Personalised Plans: Working with parents to create a unique support plan that highlights the child’s strengths and reduces challenging behaviours.

  • Understanding the Child: Understanding the child and identifying what situations lead to challenging behaviour.

  • Skill Development: Helping the child’s team learn to manage difficult situations and develop their skills and the child’s skills.

  • Promoting Well-being: Supporting the overall happiness and quality of life of the child.

  • Long Term: PBS is not a quick fix, it is a comprehensive long term process.

At MICAH, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) works alongside our ABA therapy services to provide a well-rounded approach to helping your child. While therapy uses behaviour science to build a child’s skills and reduce challenging behaviours, PBS looks at the bigger picture, working with the whole team—parents, therapists, and teachers—to create a supportive environment. By focusing on understanding the child’s needs and the reasons behind their behaviours, PBS ensures that the strategies used in therapy are part of a wider plan that promotes a child’s growth, well-being, and success across all areas of life.

Can I have PBS and ABA Therapy?
